In case you’ve been perusing this web site that’s dedicated to . . . ME and haven’t managed to get enough of . . . ME, here’s a little number I cobbled together that’s all about . . . ME.

It takes the form of a five minute movie musical, starring . . . who else . . . ME!  It’s got sex!   It’s got drugs!  It’s got Rock n Roll!   It’s got flashbacks and closeups and, of course, it’s got ME.

This shameless, self-promotion is starting to make me nervous.  I was never big on self-aggrandizement, but I had spent the better part of a forty year career putting words in other people’s mouths and, when it came time, finally, to write songs for my own voice again, I decided to start with the subject matter I knew best . . . my own life.

As interesting as that may or may not be, the main idea of “Rock n Roll Dreams” is that there are plenty of folks, just like ME, who were kids when Rock n Roll first appeared on the scene . . . who came down with severe cases of the Rockin Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie flu, who never sought or found a cure and who are still out and about in the world, all gray-haired and wizened, holding on to a small spark of the renegade romance of Rock and playing air guitars in front of their bathroom mirrors . . .

Lyrics

I made my bones at the wheel of a 58 Chevy
With a bag of marijuana and a toxic blonde by my side
I was a long haired hippie freak looking for a stairway to heaven
I was wasted
I was strung out
I didn’t know what anything was all about

But I never let go of my rock n roll dreams
And the renegade romance I’m livin
Never said no to the honky tonk queens
And all the free love I was given

Singin
Sha-na-na-na-na
Na-na
All night long

I fell to earth in a blaze of major confusion
I was a wide eyed wannabe working class hero cliché
I got my fifteen minutes and a handful of half-hearted blow jobs
I got fed up
I was bummed out
I didn’t know what anything was all about

But I never let go of my rock n roll dreams
And the renegade romance I’m livin
Never said no to the honky tonk queens
And all the free love I was given

Singin
Sha-na-na-na-na
Na-na
All night long

I came of age in a time of remarkable changes
I got an education in the fine art of rhythm and blues
Those days are gone but the changes still play out inside me
I can stand up
I can sing out
And it doesn’t really matter what it’s all about

I never let go of my rock n roll dreams
And the renegade romance I’m livin
Never said no to the honky tonk queens
And all the free love I was given

Singin
Sha-na-na-na-na
Na-na
All night long
Sha-na-na-na-na
Na-na
All night long
